All parents want the best for their children. By partnering with our office, you can help ensure your kids enjoy the benefits of optimal oral health and a beautiful smile.
While good oral hygiene, a nutritious diet, and a healthy lifestyle are essential, your child also needs routine dental checkups and professional cleanings to ensure their smile remains in tip-top condition. The effective dental routines established when your child is young help provide a strong foundation for a lifetime of good oral health.
The American Dental Association advises parents to bring their kids in for a routine checkup and preventive care once every six months.
With regular checkups, your child will become more and more comfortable in the dental office and with the process of receiving care. Checkups twice a year allow us to assess oral health and development, and check for any emerging conditions, providing preventive care and treatment early in their onset.
We review your child’s medical and dental history.
We examine their teeth and all the surrounding soft tissues, and check the bite and jaw growth.
We may recommend select digital imaging to assess the development and position of unerupted teeth, gum health, check for decay or infection, and evaluate the jaws and surrounding anatomy.
We’ll note any signs of dental disease, a malocclusion (bad bite), tongue or swallowing issues, dental injuries, or other problems that may affect oral health and require monitoring or timely care.
When your child is old enough, we perform a professional dental cleaning to eliminate any plaque or debris that has accumulated between the teeth or in hard-to-reach places.
By gently cleaning your child’s smile around the teeth and gums, we reduce the presence of harmful bacteria that, if left in place, can cause cavities and gum disease.
We’ll also provide age-appropriate oral hygiene instructions and dietary guidance to help keep your child’s smile healthy and bright at home.
As an added level of protection from tooth decay, we may recommend a topical fluoride treatment and the application of dental sealants.
Dental Sealants are mainly used to protect the chewing surfaces of the permanent back teeth (molars). Sealants are a long-term preventive measure against tooth decay and clearly lower the risk of cavities on these surfaces. Dr. Lee will check the sealant during routine check-ups and can easily re-apply it if it has worn away.
