Dr. Jian grew up in Los Angeles, California and is a proud graduate of UC San Diego, where he earned a degree in Biology and built a foundation for a career in dentistry. From there, he went on to the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and where his passion for service and community outreach earned him the Humanitarian Award from the International College of Dentists.
During dental school, Dr. Jian completed a fellowship in the Michigan LEND program, an interdisciplinary leadership training program that taught him how to better serve the needs of infants, children, and adolescents with or at risk of special health care needs. He went on to complete his pediatric specialty training at the renowned Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Jian has practiced in a variety of settings, gaining extensive experience with diverse patient populations from metropolitan areas like Philadelphia and New York City to suburban Long Island and central Pennsylvania. Today, he brings his calm, gentle demeanor, individualized patient approach, and world-class education and experience to your own backyard in Frederick, Maryland.
During his free time, Dr. Jian teaches at Penn/CHOP, educating the next generation of pediatric dentists. Outside the office, you might catch him exploring local coffee spots, playing board games, or planning his next tiny trip — all while dreaming up ways to make dentistry a little more delightful for everyone

Tiny Trips Pediatric Dentistry was founded by Dr. Jian and Dr. Laurel with a shared belief that dental care should feel welcoming, supportive, and even a little fun for children and their families.
Dr. Laurel Yan grew up in New Jersey and earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, where she met her husband and practice partner, Dr. Jian. Her path in dentistry has been shaped by a strong commitment to service, community health, and compassionate patient care.
Dr. Laurel currently practices as a general dentist and serves as a National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholar at a Federally Qualified Health Center. In this role, she provides care to underserved communities and works to improve access to oral health services for patients who may otherwise face barriers to treatment. Her experiences in community dentistry have deepened her belief that every family deserves a welcoming, supportive dental home. Looking ahead, Dr. Laurel plans to continue her training in orthodontics at Rutgers University with the goal of becoming an orthodontist and expanding the care available to families in the Frederick community.
Their combined experiences in pediatric dentistry, community health, and academic training have shaped a practice focused on kindness, trust, and positive early dental experiences.
Together, they envisioned Tiny Trips as more than just a dental office — a place where each visit feels like a small adventure and where children can build confidence with every step of their dental journey.
As a husband-and-wife team, they are proud to serve the Frederick community and look forward to growing alongside the families they care for.
